The NHS Institute closed on 31 March 2013. This website is being maintained in the short term so that registered users can download documents and view videos (but webinars are no longer available). A number of key resources will transfer to the NHS Improving Quality’s website. Once this website is closed you'll be able to see all publicly available content on The National Archives website: http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/*/http://institute.nhs.uk.

Please note that from May 1st 2013 the ability to order our hard copy materials will be temporarily suspended as we finalise the closedown of the NHS Institute and complete the transition to NHS Improving Quality (part of NHS England). It is currently anticipated that many of the materials will be passed onto NHS England and should become available again later this year.

Further messages on its future will be posted here over the coming weeks.

NHS Global: Who we are

NHS G picture.jpgNHS Global is a new organisation that works in partnership with Government Departments, including UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), to coordinate the UK's Healthcare offering delivering solutions to international government and organisations. In particular we aim to strengthen both commercial and philanthropic activity overseas by offering support and advice to NHS organisations wishing to compete in the global market, in addition to building and growing the NHS brand and reputation internationally.

NHS Global: What we do

NHS Global works to remove barriers, provide technical and commercial support and help the NHS to get best value for the knowledge and skills it holds in a way that does not affect domestic frontline services. It will support the NHS in a range of business functions, including:

  • Identifying commercial opportunities in the NHS
  • Generating demand in international markets
  • Brokering partnerships between NHS organisations and overseas customers
  • Identifying potential legal issues and risks
  • Providing advice on Intellectual Property management and Marketing & communications.

“NHS Global seeks to build and grow the NHS brand and reputation overseas, enabling the NHS to compete in the international healthcare market and to exploit the commercial value of its technologies, products and knowledge. In doing so, NHS Global acts as another mechanism to support great ideas generated in the NHS being widely accepted across the world” Simon Burns (Minister of State for Health)

“The work of NHS Global will look to strengthen the NHS’ reputation so that it is recognised around the world for the high quality of its people, expertise and innovations.” Sir David Nicholson KCB CBE, NHS Chief Executive

“The Government will work with the NHS and industry to design and establish a proactive, entrepreneurial NHS Global to make the most of the brand internationally and to offer support and advice to NHS trusts. It will act as a point of contact for NHS organisations and international customers, opening up international opportunities. NHS Global will be hosted outside the Department of Health, in an organisation that can represent the interests of the NHS and allow the NHS to shape the final business model”. The Plan for Growth, HM Treasury and BIS, March 2011

NHS Global is hosted by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement. If you are interested in the NHS Institute or NHS Worldwide, please click on the links.
