NHS professionals asked to talk technology

Are you running a service that uses a technology that has transformed patient care? Is this technology excellent but for some reason not widely used across the NHS? If so then the NHS Technology Adoption Centre (NTAC) would like to hear from you.

NTAC has launched its second Call for Project Proposals. NTAC is keen to receive proposals from NHS healthcare professionals concerning technologies that would be suitable for 4 'Technology Implementation Projects' to begin in Autumn 2009.

Margaret Parton, Chief Executive of the NHS Technology Adoption Centre, says “There are many innovative technologies being used by NHS professionals that save money, make staff’s life easier but most importantly improve patient care. We need to know what they are and share this knowledge. This is a unique opportunity for clinicians and managers to tell the NHS what technologies have been working for both themselves and their patients”.

Particular interest will be given to the following technology areas:

  • Ambulance Care
  • Primary and Community Care
  • Palliative and End of Life Care
  • Acute Care (especially ENT, Orthopaedics, Gastro Intestinal and Neurology/Stroke)
  • Chronic Wound Care

Projects will involve selected technologies being implemented in NHS Trusts to see the range of issues associated with adopting and using the specific technologies. These Projects will also identify where additional changes to a clinical pathway or service may need to be made to get the full benefit from the technologies. Where technology adoption is successful, online technology adoption guides ("How to, Why to Guides") will be disseminated widely across the NHS to stimulate uptake.
