The NHS Institute closed on 31 March 2013. This website is being maintained in the short term so that registered users can download documents and view videos (but webinars are no longer available). A number of key resources will transfer to the NHS Improving Quality’s website. Once this website is closed you'll be able to see all publicly available content on The National Archives website: http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/*/http://institute.nhs.uk.

Please note that from May 1st 2013 the ability to order our hard copy materials will be temporarily suspended as we finalise the closedown of the NHS Institute and complete the transition to NHS Improving Quality (part of NHS England). It is currently anticipated that many of the materials will be passed onto NHS England and should become available again later this year.

Further messages on its future will be posted here over the coming weeks.

Welcome to the website for ThinkGlucose

Update: ThinkGlucose NEW

Although the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement has now closed the ThinkGlucose programme will continue to be fully supported by our accredited delivery partners, whose contact details are available here.

Improving the management of people with diabetes

The number of people with diabetes is steadily increasing, but the provision of consistent, effective and proactive inpatient care for people with diabetes as a secondary condition is still inadequate.

ThinkGlucose addresses this, supporting hospital trusts to deliver a clinical pathway that improves the management of patients with diabetes as a secondary diagnosis.

ThinkGlucose is within the recommended guidance for DH Never Events for Maladministration of insulin. It is a publication partner for the NICE Clinical Standards for Adults with Diabetes (launched in April 2011).  Access the standards.

Toolkit and support packages

ThinkGlucose ToolkitThinkGlucose provides a package of tried and tested products, learning and support.  The ThinkGlucose toolkit (and support opportunities) will help you identify and overcome the obstacles to effective care of people with diabetes as a secondary condition.

The Tool kit is further supported by the ThinkGlucose Resource pack. This pack provides promotional material and clinical tools to assist you in implementing ThinkGlucose.
